Happy faces at end of Nordic Combined Summer Grand Prix

At the end there were (almost) only smiling faces. Magnus Moan was happy about his second victory in a row in the Nordic Combined Summer Grand Prix and admitted that he had become more relaxed after the birth of his second child in April. Johannes Rydzek, the athlete with the most consistent performances in all four events, was all smiles: “I’m really very happy that I had such a good streak – one victory, three second places. The final race was very tough; there was not much time for regeneration from Friday to Saturday.” Also the organizers of the Ski Club Oberwiesenthal were happy at the end: They did a great job – and a continuation of the success story in 2011 is possible!

Saturday was different from Friday and, thankfully, also the weather was different. After Magnus Moan triumphed in close to torrential rain on Friday, just a few rain drops were seen during the jumping round and bright sunshine came out right in time for the roller skiing race in the afternoon. After the jumping, Moan started with a gap of 55 seconds to the leader and went on to win the competition with the fastest time in the roller skiing race. Rydzek took the overall win in the summer rankings. Both Friday and Saturday saw several hundred spectators come to the Ski Jumping stadium, and a few thousand watched the roller skiing competitions. The enthusiasm could be felt and at the end everybody was satisfied. Also, or especially, the spectators!
